History / About Us

1935 Crossland Auto Glass was started as Lawton's original auto glass replacement shop. It was located at 312 "E" Ave. in downtown Lawton across from the Hotel Lawtonian.

Carl Crossland

1947, when Gene was 14, he quit school and went to work for Mr. Crossland. At that time they offered boat repair, auto body, and auto glass.

   Geraldine and Gene Burk

1959 Gene wanted to go into business for himself. So with wife Geraldine by his side they ventured off to start their own auto glass and body shop.

1965 Mr.Crossland was ready to retire and contacted Gene to purchased the business from him. With Mr. Crossland help and support, Gene shut down the boat repair and auto body repair facilities and began to specialize in auto glass replacement only.

1974 Gene Burk Auto Glass Specialists was forced to relocate for urban renewal.  Lawton's Central Mall is now located where the old shop was located.

1979 With his oldest kids (Eugene,Karen and Mike) working for the business Gene formed a corporation and it became Gene Burk Auto Glass Specialists Inc.

1995 Gene decided it was time for him to retire and offered to sell the business to his sons (Eugene,Mike and Shane). Eugene decided he would pass on buying the glass shop and went in business for himself. Sons Mike and Shane purchased the business from Gene and continued the family tradition of quality and value.

1996 Only one year later Mike and Shane were beginning to realize the customer demand for mobile service. They purchased and customized their first full time mobile truck. It included an on board generator and awning to pull the vehicles under.

1999 Mike and Shane opened their second location in Altus, Oklahoma and began servicing far western Oklahoma and north western Texas.

2000 It wasn't long before the need was realized for a second fully equipped mobile truck to cover the larger service area that had been established. In June the second full service mobile unit was put in service.

2001 On May 1st Gene Burk Auto Glass opened its third full service location in Duncan, Oklahoma and began servicing further east into Oklahoma.

2001 On May 27th late Sunday evening Gene Burk Auto Glass experienced a set back when a large windstorm came through and caused extreme damage to our Lawton location.  After finding a temporary location to continue operations out of we moved what was left on Monday, Memorial Day, and was open for business Tuesday morning in a temporary location.

2002   On July 15th the reconstruction at the original location was completed and we reopened in our new building back at the corner of Sheridan and Lee.

2005  History and tradition found each Burk generation  entering the work field at the young age of thirteen. Mike's sons, Kevin and Brett were no different. The third generation of Burks' took their place in the family business. Gene Burk's reputation was one of earning  respect by doing the job right the first time.   It was at this time Mike made the decision to buy out Shane. Mike took over the office and closed the Duncan Shop. With the help of his mother (Geraldine), they began teaching his sons the same work ethics taught to him, thus continiued the quality of service and workmanship Gene Burk had required of the business that carried his name.      Yes Grandpa (Gene) was there teaching also.

2008  Gene Burk Auto Glass of Altus was hit  by a tornado and efforts to relocate in the Altus area failed after a year trying to produce a new physcial location. By now Kevin and Brett were driving and Mike responded by purchasing mobile units.Currently Gene Burk Auto Glass offers full auto glass service from the one physical location in Lawton, Oklahoma, where you can always find them.  When the need arises we can come to your location with two fully equipped  mobile units.

2011  January 22, 2011 Gene passes away. Leaving his tradition of hard work and his dedication of serving the public to future generations. Generations that are proud to display the family business know as Gene Burk Auto Glass. http://www.grayfuneral.com/CurrentObituary.aspx?did=057c40f9-5872-470f-9b2c-7b1973039f0b
